It also reached number five in the UK where it has been certified platinum for shipping 300,000 copies, and number two in Australia. It spent a total of 18 weeks in the US top ten and has been certified double platinum for shipments in excess of two million copies in the US. The album returned the group to the top of the US Billboard charts for the first time since their 1977 album Rumours, spending five weeks at number two. Three of Lindsey Buckingham's five contributions were written with co-producer Richard Dashut including the UK top-10 single " Oh Diane". The other, " Only Over You", was credited "With thanks to Dennis Wilson for inspiration." Christine had recently ended her relationship with Wilson, a member of the Beach Boys, who would die by drowning the following year. Of Christine McVie's four compositions, three were written in collaboration with other writers: " Love in Store" with Jim Recor, ex-husband of Nicks' friend Sara Recor who later married Mick Fleetwood, " Hold Me" with singer-songwriter Robbie Patton whose second album she had recently produced and "Wish You Were Here" with lyrics from erstwhile John Mayall drummer Colin Allen. "Straight Back" was also a US rock radio hit in late 1982. Of the other two compositions from Nicks on the album, "That's Alright" dated back to the Buckingham Nicks days of 1974, while "Straight Back" was written in the winter of 1981 and referred to her separation from then-lover, producer Jimmy Iovine, and the huge wrench she experienced having to leave her newly established and highly successful solo career to rejoin Fleetwood Mac for the 1982 project (Nicks refers to this on the DVD commentary to her 2008 retrospective Crystal Visions – The Very Best of Stevie Nicks). The latter version was (initially) used in the video, and was not available on CD until the release of 1992's retrospective box set 25 Years – The Chain. The edited version of "Gypsy" that appears on the album and single releases runs for only 4:24, but a 5½-minute version had been originally recorded. The Stevie Nicks composition " Gypsy" (number 12 Pop, number four Rock, and number 16 in Canada) was the second single from the album and was accompanied by a lengthy video directed by Russell Mulcahy. By this time Stevie Nicks, Mick Fleetwood, and Lindsey Buckingham had each commenced a solo career, the former to multi-platinum number-one success with 1981's Bella Donna, the latter faring not as well with his first outing Law and Order (number 32 on the US Billboard 200). Following a hiatus of over a year after the completion of the worldwide Tusk tour, the band temporarily relocated to Château d'Hérouville in France to record a new album. From rich and poor to young and old, the idea of time as money is a powerful one. If you have accumulated enough time, you can effectively live forever. If all of your time expires, you die young. You live until you are 25 years old and then the clock on your forearm starts ticking down towards 00:00:00. #Lyn alden net worth movieThe premise of the movie is that everyone is paid in time, rather than money. This concept of a time billionaire really hits home for me, because one of my favorite movies is the 2011 movie In Time starring Justin Timberlake. Our society overvalues the former, but undervalues the latter. One has financial resources and the other has life resources. It perfectly breaks down the difference between a time billionaire and a dollar billionaire. I have read this excerpt of the transcript too many times to count at this point. And what’s startling about the picture – again, to this question of how long is a billion seconds – is how short it actually is. So he has 52 circles on the horizontal and then 90 rows so that you can see a 90-year life in weeks. And what he does is he puts a week – he does a circle for each week. And I find his writing style and the topics he is interested in just amazing. So I was trying to capture – I heard Tim Urban on your podcast. But I don’t know that I live every day that way. I don’t know how I’d price it because my kids are of a certain age that they’ll never be again. What would he pay if he could take the next five years of someone’s 20-year-old healthy body, mind, etc.? And for that 20-year-old, how would they price it? Because I was thinking at various points of my career, I might have sold the next five years for something.Īnd over time, my pricing has gone vertical because the next five years, if I were to lose – and the key to this question is that you can’t sell the five at the end of your life. And I was thinking about how if you could – what would Rupert Murdoch, who’s worth $20 billion – he’s 87 years old. But they aren’t relating to themselves as time billionaires. And I was thinking of time billionaires that when I see, sometimes, 20-year-olds – the thought I had was they probably have two billion seconds left. And we deify dollar billionaires in a way that – it’d be nice to co-opt that term the way Tyler Cowen did with cultural billionaires. I feel like in our culture, we’re so obsessed, as a culture, with money. In one of his books, he talks about cultural billionaires. And I was thinking about – Tyler Cowen has a thing about cultural billionaires – A billion seconds is slightly over 31 years. Graham Duncan: A million seconds is 11 days. That’s a hell of a way to think about it. He said a million seconds is like 11 days. And he was saying people don’t really understand the difference between billionaires and millionaires. Graham Duncan: I was listening to a guy introduced a speaker a while ago. Here is the transcript from the podcast conversation: This insight was flagged by my friend Blake Robbins who described it as “truly profound.” I actually think Blake may be understating how incredible this idea is. He spoke of a concept during that conversation that I can’t stop thinking about - the idea of “time billionaires.” Graham Duncan, the co-founder of East Rock Capital, appeared on the Tim Ferris podcast in March 2019. As all Korean Americans, we sought out a product that spoke to our shared mission of inclusiveness - a beauty bag for travelers, for all genders, and for those passionate about ethical consumption. We brought on Tim and Dan of the CFDA Incubator accessories brand Haerfest to create the multifunctional bag itself. The SOON Bag was conceptualized by David Yi and came to fruition through a partnership with myself, allowing us to collectively design the bag, curate the products ourselves, and incorporate our own valuable partnerships. Joined by our creative friends from across the Pacific and the NY homebase alike, we celebrated the intersection and introduction of Korean culture and shopping on our own turf, and disseminated our beauty-brimming Kare Packages into the city. The entire experience was previewed at our Night Market Party, a noeraebang-style gathering with a beauty talk show hosted by Very Good Light’s David Yi with guest celebrity hairstylist David Lopez, followed by drag performances by Bubble T’s very best (DJ Tito_Vida, West Dakota, Dynasty, Mahal Kita, and Bibing kamama). In addition, we recruited globally established labels MMParis, White Zinfandel, Trine Tuxen Jewelry, Kaarem, SKINRx Lab, Kosette, and ESL, as well as artists Eddie Kang and Soyoun Lee, to contribute merchandise for our shoppers. These sat alongside K-beauty I handpicked from the Seoul markets. Talk to Her founder Joyce Lee is serving as a board member. In its meeting of September 16 it made the lift-off of August 24 official by declaring: “A helicopter- type craft succeeded for the first time in becoming weightless and leaving the ground with its engine, supplies and one man on board.” Faced with the poor results obtained by two other rotary-wing machines, Louis Breguet, abandoned vertical takeoff in 1909, despite his conviction that this was a promising solution, and embarked on the construction of conventional aircraft with biplanes and then monoplanes. It was a world first and Louis Breguet immediately informed the Academy of Sciences. In 1907 his Gyroplane n☁, a curious aircraft with four rotating systems comprising eight propellers each, was twice airborne for about one minute: it reached an altitude of 60 centimeters on August 24 and almost 1.5 meters on September 20. The gyroplane, an early helicopterįrom 1905 to 1909, in partnership with his brother, Jacques, and professor Charles Richet, Louis Breguet entered the emerging world of aviation with an original approach: rotary wings or vertical takeoff. As an engineer and company manager, Louis Breguet entered history in his lifetime on three counts: for his pioneering work on helicopters, for his major contribution to military aviation and for his role in establishing civilian air transport. Summing up the career of Louis Breguet in a few lines is no easy task given that he and the Société Anonyme des Ateliers d’Aviation Louis Breguet that he established and ran (later known as Breguet Aviation) became the major players of the aviation world for nearly a century. However he surprised his relatives by turning decisively towards aviation. Louis Breguet, newly graduated from the École supérieure d’électricité (school of electrical engineering), seemed destined to take over the family telecommunications and electric-motor activities, the watchmaking business having been sold by his grandfather in 1870. Louis’ father, Antoine Breguet (1851-1882), graduate of the Polytechnique and one of the most promising engineers of his generation, introduced the Bell telephone in France before dying prematurely at the age of 31. In recognition of his many achievements, his name is featured on the Eiffel Tower. He invented and built a dial telegraph adopted by many countries and developed several telecommunication systems that improved railroad safety. Louis’ grandfather, Louis-Clément Breguet (1804-1883), also member of the Academy of Sciences, devised a large number of electrical instruments. The school makes its mark on the world stage through innovative teaching and research, and by its learning-by-doing approach.Louis Breguet in fact represented the fifth generation of his family since the arrival in France in 1762 of his great-great- grandfather, Abraham-Louis Breguet (1747-1823), member of the French Academy of Sciences, who established his business in Paris and, with his son, Antoine- Louis (1776-1858), brought the art of watchmaking to its peak. When the infractions were found and penalties were handed out, the men's basketball program was disqualified from the 1992 NCAA Tournament. It was very important that John decided to stick with us."Īt the time, when Wallace came to Syracuse in 1992, the Syracuse athletic department was being investigated for possible violations across several sports. In a 2014 interview with Jack McCallum of Sports Illustrated, Boeheim called Wallace the most "important" recruit in Syracuse history. Over the course of his career, Wallace played 127 games for SU and ranks third in scoring (2,119 points) and third in rebounds (1,065) in program history. Why he's here: A four-year player for Boeheim, Wallace helped lead the Orangemen to the 1996 Final Four. But there was one caveat: Pitino had to delay his honeymoon, which was scheduled for the next day, so he could hit the recruiting trail immediately.
